Wainscoting

I love wainscoting!  I went through many of the Parade of Homes tours this year in Northern Utah, and I saw quite a bit of this.  Wainscoting adds so much character to a room.  Most of the time, it is white, but in one of the homes it was a deep red.  Beautiful.  What do you think?

I also love the use of color on this table.  This would be so easy to do.
Maybe when we move into our own place again I can do something like this.

Sweater to toddler dress refashion

I had heard about people taking a sweater that they didn't want anymore and making a dress out of it.  I have been wanting to try something like this for a while.  I got a grey ribbed turtleneck sweater out of a bag of clothes my parents were getting rid of.  I knew I would never wear it, so I made it into a dress for my daughter.  I forgot to take a before picture of the sweater; it looked something like this:
Using this link as my guide (but mostly just winging it), I cut out and sewed up this little masterpiece!

With a little flower sewn on for added embellishment
And here it is on my little doll:
The dress is a little big for her right now, but should fit better come Fall, when it cools down a bit.

Up and running

Ok, so I know that it has been almost two years (!) since I have posted on this blog. Forever, I know. I have recently decided that I want to start it up again. During the past several months, I have been creating a lot of fun things. We have moved to Connecticut until November, and I will be without my sewing machine (and practically everything else crafty) until then. Needless to say, I will not be able to make very many things while I am here. But, I will be posting pictures of projects I have completed prior to moving. Most of them are just the finished product, so there aren't any pics of things from start to finish. Sorry about that.

So, I want to display a bit of my crafting creativity since I cannot actually put it to other use at the moment. Hope you enjoy! :)

Bleach stain refashion

This shirt recently got bleach around the collar. I didn't want to just throw it away, so I covered it up in my own creative way. Here are the stains:

I used some fabric that I love to draw a design to cover up the stains. I used the iron-on stuff (sorry, don't remember what it's called), so I could iron the fabric onto the shirt. Then, I sewed around the edges. I decided to do a tight zig-zag stitch, rather than just straight-stitch. This way should hold very well, although it took FOREVER and the thread got caught multiple times. Here's the finished product:

Oh, and I added a gold button to the center of the flower. I'll try to post another pic soon.
Note: The other marks on the shirt are because it's dirty. Once I washed the shirt, they came off.

Ok, here's me wearing the shirt.  Notice the gold button :)

Birthday Card

Here's the most recent color inspiration. I've been slacking for a while (haven't felt very well and been busy with homework). I loved using these colors because they are pretty much my wedding colors. This was fun...Enjoy!Sorry about the glare. My camera was having trouble.
